Fiddler's Ferry Power Station Control Room

The main control room at Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station was located in a building adjacent to the turbine hall. All aspects of plant control were undertaken from here, including start up, running and shut down of all four units.

Originally the control room housed hard-desk control panels with fixed buttons and gauges for operation of individual systems. The hard desks were linked to a CUTLAS system designed by the Central Electricity Generating Board. The entire control room was modernised in 1998 when the panels were replaced with Advanced Plant Management System (APMS) soft desks. Large display screens provided an overview of each of the station’s primary systems, while smaller screens provided operators with precise control of the plant equipment.
